Dr Preetam Kumar Pathak, an ex-Cottonian (1982-84), graduated with honours from AEC in 1989. He obtained the M.E. (Civil) degree from AEC (1994) in Watershed Management & Flood Control with his dissertation was on stochastic analysis of stream flow. He did his PhD work in the field of finite element analysis of seepage through earth dam and obtained PhD in civil engineering from Gauhati University in 2005.
Dr Pathak has more than 30 years of industrial and academic experience. He started his professional career in 1991 as SDO(Civil) of NEEPCO in Doyang Hydro-Electric Project in Wokha, Nagaland. There he was engaged in project monitoring. In 1992 he was selected by APSC for Assam Engineering Service and joined as AE in the Irrigation Department in which he worked more than 20 years in various capacities and gathered practical engineering experience of survey, planning & design, estimation and execution in different places of Assam. In 2012, he took voluntary retirement form Irrigation Dept. and joined as professor and principal of SITM. In 2013 he joined as professor and HoD of CE in RIST and later he was appointed as Principal, RIST. He is also a panelist external examiner of ME and PhD of Gauhati University.
Dr Pathak is a life member of Institution of Engineers (India) and also a life member of Indian Water Resources Society (IWRS). During student life, he was an active organizer and held the post of General Secretary of AASU, AEC Unit in 1987-88. Under his professorship. more than 1000 engineering students have already graduated with flying colours from RIST.
