 Dr. Hema Kanta Barua

Dr. H.K.Barua has been working as the Director, Academic Affairs at Regional Institute of Science & Technology and teaching the students of Civil Engineering of RIST, Meghalaya. Additionally, he has been guiding research scholars working for Ph.D. under the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.
Dr. Barua is a widely experienced person in the fields of both academics and construction industry. He worked for about 13 years as teacher in engineering colleges of Govt. of Assam before joining Tocklai Experimental Station (Tea Research Association of India), a pioneer research institute known worldwide as an engineer taking the responsibility of all construction and maintenance works. He left this organization after working for about 10 years and floated a company called RGT Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd. In 1988, which has been extending consultancy services in the field of civil engineering to various organizations under both public and private sectors of NE region.
Giving the responsibility of his company to other persons, he joined RIST in 2010 and since then he has been giving his services to RIST in respect of both teaching and academic administration, being a specialized structural engineer with a Master Degree (1970) and a Ph. D. degree (1975) from IIT, Kharagpur. He has a number of publications in both international and national journals, apart from having the experiences of presenting a paper in the World Conference on earthquake engineering and attending a UN conference in Vienna. He also visited Germany as a member of an Indian Delegation to study different aspects of energy-efficient buildings.
Dr. Barua is also known as an engineer who has designed and executed many projects including bridges and buildings. Presently, he is a fellow of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) and also a Life Member (Fellow) of the Institution of Valuers (India). He also edited a technical fortnightly called the Construction Tribune from 1984 to 1996, which dealt with various developmental activities of North Eastern Region.
