Dr. P.C Mahanta, has been serving Regional Institute of Science & Technology since Jauary- 2011after he retired as the Director of Technical Education, Government of Assam in 2002.He served Assam Engineering College as Lecturer,Assistant Professor,Professor in the of department of Electrical Engineering and finally as Principal of the College from 28.11.1998 to 30.06.2001.

Presently he is also teaching the subjects of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) course in the institute as a Professor. He passed matriculation in 1960 in first division with distinction in Sanskrit from Gauhati University and Intermediate from Gauhati University too with Distinction in Chemistry. He has 22 years of teaching experience from Graduate to Research level in the field of technical education.

Dr.Mahanta is a Gold Medalist from Gauhati University in his B.E degree securing first class first position with distinction having a record percentage of 82.5. He pursued M Sc (Tech) from Manchester Institute of Science & Technology, UK. In the year 1986, he also achieved his Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in "Power Electronics & Control".

Apart from academic discipline, he had a wide range of experience as an administrator in the academic institutes and is a potential researcher in the field of Power Electronics and Control.
