The Closing Ceremony of Sports Week-2016 of Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) concluded on Monday. Addressing the gathering of more than 800 engineering students of RIST during the Ceremony, Professor Amarjyoti Choudhury, CV Raman Chair Professor of Applied Sciences and Academic Advisor of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya and former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University said, Engineering students should develop the quality of working together in a group through various sports events which will greatly enhance their employability and perform better in their jobs. Sports Week in an educational institution actually provides the platform for students to expose their talents and to promote competitive temperament among them, said Prof Choudhry. During his speech he appreciated the enthusiastic efforts of faculty members and active participation of students in the event in large numbers.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dr PC Mahanta, Director RIST, congratulated the students on their success in various events of the Week and also on their active participation in all the events. Dr PG Rao, Vice Chancellor of University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) addressed the students on the importance of participation in extracurricular activities in promoting the unity, brotherhood and prosperity since the institute is showcasing the students from all across the region. He encourages the students to strengthen their sports team to represent the institute in the outside events which will bring glory to the institute even though the institute has already bagged prizes in several regional level tournaments.
While offering vote of thanks Mr Karjon Basumatary, the Secretary Sports and Cultural Affairs of RIST highlighted the dedicated effort being made by the young and brilliant students and faculty members of the institute towards making it a grand success.
