Although India enjoys the demographic advantage of having the youngest workforce in comparison with advanced economies, it records a very low percentage of workforce with formal employability skills, says Mr K A Vijayan, Deputy General Manager, Govt. Projects, ICT Academy while addressing at the launching ceremony of AICTE Employability Enhancement Training Program (AICTE-EETP) at Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST).
RIST, a premier institute of engineering and technology in the north eastern region having a present enrollment of about 1000 engineering students undergoing B.Tech Programs, has signed a MoU with ICT Academy to work together for the overall growth and development of the students’ community especially in making them employable to meet the ever increasing demand of the industries. In the very first phase ICT Academy has launched the AICTE-EETP for imparting training to the final and pre-final year students of the institute. The training will be conducted by core faculty team from ICT Academy who will be supported by the experts deputed from industries so that once the students pass out from the institute they would be absorbed by industries.
Mr Vijayan also provided information about the entire-training program and how it shall benefit students to become employable in future. Having seen the potential of the students of RIST, Mr Vijayan says “We are extremely hopeful of making the campus of RIST a nodal center for all the forthcoming pool Campus Drives which we shall conduct at the successful completion of the training programs”.
As India moves progressively towards becoming a global knowledge economy, it must meet the rising aspirations of its youth. This can be partially achieved through focus on advancement of skills that are relevant to the emerging economic environment. The challenge pertains not only to a huge quantitative expansion in skill training for the youth, but also to the much more important task of raising their quality. The collaboration of RIST with ICT Academy will surely play a vital role to create opportunities, space and scope for the developments of the young and budding engineering graduates of the institute.
