Participants across India attend ISTE national convention at RIST

RIST, RI BHOI DISTRICT, OCTOBER 28: Over 1,000 participants including about a hundred from across the country were present at the inaugural session of the 20thISTE Students’ National Convention 2017, hosted jointly by Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) and University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) at RIST campus at Techno City on the outskirts of Guwahati on Saturday. Incidentally, this is the first time that such a national level convention of technical students is taking place in the North East.
Following the inaugural and welcome address by Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury, VC, USTM and Dr Bhabaranjan Sarmah, Vice President, ISTE New Delhi respectively, Prof Pratapsinh K Desai, President ISTE, New Delhi said that the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is the leading national professional non-profit making society for the technical education system in India with the motto “Career development of teachers & personality development of students and overall development of India’s technical education system.” He informed that present, ISTE has a very large and effective membership base consisting of more than one lakh life members, 5.5 lakh student members, 2410 institutional members (including IITs, IISs, NITs and other leading technical institutions), 1214 faculty chapters and 1322 students’ chapters in addition to 17 sections throughout the country.
In his address as the chief guest, Prof Dileep N Malkhede, Adviser, AICTE, said, “AICTE and ISTE re working hand in hand across the country for improving the infrastructure and teaching methods in institutions imparting courses in technical and engineering subjects. Now we shall stress on augmenting resources for the North Eastern region for scholarships, establishment of skills and personality development centres, and sponsoring students to participate in programmes at both national and international levels.”
Prof Dhiraj Bora, VC, Assam Science & Technology University, stressed on the need for conservation of environment and urged the student community to take a leading role in this sphere.
Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM requested the ISTE functionaries to invite corporates and technocrats at future conventions so that students could interact with them. Many such invitees, he said, could be the future employers of these students.
The concluding remarks at the inaugural session were made by Prof NK Choudhury, Chief Academic Adviser of ERDF. Earlier, the dignitaries released a souvenir published to mark the occasion. Several national and state level awards were also presented at the inaugural session.
Robotics Football Competition, Quiz, Model Presentation, Paper Presentation on the theme “Technological transformation: a futuristic approach”, Posters Competition, Circuit Design Competition, Build-o-Mania Competition for Civil Engineering students and many other engrossing events followed the inaugural session.
