USTM Signed MoU with UGC Bangladesh

9th Mile, Ri Bhoi, April 9, 2019: With the objective to develop and explore in the field of higher education for achieving global standards and to reap optimized standardized outputs, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at Sylhet recently. The MoU was signed by Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC Bangladesh and Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, India.

Prof Abdul Mannan said that UGC Bangladesh will facilitate and coordinate the interaction of the universities of Bangladesh with USTM to pursue cooperation in exchange visits by students, faculty and administrators for study and research, teaching and discussions in accordance with regulations of both governments and universities. The pact will help in exchange of materials in education and research, publications, academic information, instruction and cultural programmes, and institution of fellowships. Both the sides agreed for joint research projects and programmes related to global education in areas of Peace and conflict transformation; Water resource and solid waste management; Women empowerment; Micro finance and issues related to the overall spread and promotion of education and for all round development of both the countries in specified areas that may be applicable by rule of law of the respective lands.

According to Mahbubul Hoque, both the institutions would take up joint research in the field of History, Culture, Environment. Both the organizations can launch fellowships or scholarships for the competent students and scholars for higher study and research. Both institutions acknowledged that the visit by faculty and students from one institution to the other shall be subject to Entry and Visa Regulations of India and Bangladesh and shall comply with regulations and policies of the UGC and the USTM. This non-binding Agreement will be effective for a period of five years, effective from the date of signing. At the end of each five-year period, this Agreement will be automatically renewed by mutual agreement for an additional five years, unless the UGC and the USTM provide written notification of a decision of non-renewal prior to the expiration date.
