USTM, Ri Bhoi, October 10, 2017: A national conference on the theme “Think Global Act Local: Contemporary Sustainable Business Practices & Development” was inaugurated by Dr Mukul Sangma, chief minister of Meghalaya at the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) Conference Hall in Ri Bhoi District on Tuesday. The two-day conference organised jointly by USTM and the North-Eastern Management Association (NEMA) will conclude on Wednesday.
Delivering the keynote address on the occasion, BP Mukteih, CMD NEDFi, said, “We have to think global as it impacts us, but action has to be taken locally to achieve the goals.” He cited the example of climate change which is a global issue but action is desired at the local level.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM highlighted the support received from the Government of Meghalaya and NEDFi authorities in the past without which the University would not have reached the eminent position that it enjoys today. He informed that the advance granted by NEDFi to USTM has been declared as a “Model Project” by the Ministry of Finance in respect of successful educational institutions financed by banks of the country.
In his chief guest’s address, Dr Mukul Sangma, expressed great pleasure to be at USTM and be a part of the National Conference. He said, “I am delighted to learn that a state of the art auditorium is coming up shortly at the University campus and I am sure that with this, Meghalaya will become a favourite destination for both national and international events.” He further stated that institutions can play a big role in attracting interest from world over. Hence, he said, the governments need to encourage the institutions. He, on his part, assured all support and cooperation to developmental efforts in the field of education by USTM and NEMA.
Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Prof WC Singh, Secretary NEMA. Prof JU Ahmed, President NEMA, gave a bird’s eye view of NEMA’s goals and activities and informed that the Association will present action points for implementation by stakeholders at the end of the conference.
