National Science Day celebrated at Regional Institute of Science & Technology
26th Feb, 2016 137On the occasion of National Science Day, Regional Institute of Science and Technology; a venture of ERD Foundation, organized a two day grand Science Marathon on 26th & 27th February 2016. The marathon included various competitions where Science Model Competition cum exhibition, bridge designing, circuit designing, robotics, Glider Designing were few among them.
A huge number of students from different departments of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya; NITS, Mirza; Don Bosco University; Dibrugarh University; Guwahati University; Assam Engineering College; Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar and many more educational institutions participated in the Science Fair displaying more than 100 Scientific Models.
Honorable Prof Dr. Iwan Pranoto, Head, Attache Education, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, India inaugurated the Science Marathon and Dr. U.S.N Murty, Chief Scientist, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research delivered the key note Speech on the topic of Scope and limitations of Microbiology and Aerodynamics in North East. Dr. Murty further added the subject of the ways of prevention from Dengue & Malaria and mentioned about his research contributions which include application of data mining tools for control of mosquito borne diseases.
The Marathon had the presence of many renowned delegates. Prof Gautam Kumar Jha, JNU, New Delhi; AMB Ashok Sajjanhar, Former Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Sweden & Latvia, Chairperson; Dr. Tridip R Sarma, Tezpur University, Kanda Shakulthanasakdi Moore, Kasetsart University, Thailand were few among the others.
The marathon was also marked by the presence of Mr. M. Hoque, Chairman, ERD Foundation, Guwahati & Dr. P.G.Rao, Vice Chencellor, University of Science & Technology Meghalaya.
Dr. Amit Choudhury, Dean, Department of Business Administration, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya concluded the dignified Science Marathon with his Vote of Thanks.
